When you see a product of ours that refers to “Buffalo Leather,” it’s because that has been the common name for the American Bison in the USA for centuries. It’s what people know and how people speak. We have been teaching people we meet about this since 1972 and have begun to help many understand that the true name for this animal is the American Bison, or scientifically “Bison Bison.”
A word of caution:
There are some companies that will use the phrase “buffalo leather” to make you think they are using Bison leather, and hide in their descriptions “water buffalo leather.” We’d urge you to make sure that the product you’re getting is actually American Bison leather, because water buffalo leather has very different qualities.
