Matching the natural full-grain leather patterns
We use the very highest quality full-grain leather to make our leather trifolds, and that comes with it's own challenges. Full-grain leather means that the leather wasn't sanded or buffed to create a temporary smooth look. We don't do that because it removes the strongest parts of the leather. Instead, we choose to take the harder route and search for patterns in the leather that match one another. Every piece of leather in every trifold we've ever made has always been handpicked to match.
The best leather for the job
Each wallet has a variety of parts. The outside shell, the inner leather base for the pockets and bill slot, the credit card pockets, and the id window border. Every Bison hide is different but has similar areas: the spine, the shoulder, the sides, etc. Choosing where the leather comes from is just as important as what it looks like. Some areas have stiffer leather, while others have leather that stretches more. So we match the job the leather needs to perform with the piece we're cutting. This means that your trifold didn't have randomly selected areas by a machine, but intricately chosen parts by our leathersmiths who actually touched, stretched, and understood the leather they were working with.
