The Longhaul Guarantee™
Built to Last — Without the Bulk
At the Buffalo Billfold Company, “Built to Last” isn’t a slogan — it’s the result of more than five decades of hands-on craftsmanship, leatherwork knowledge, and real-world testing.
While many brands advertise “100-year+ warranties,” the truth is simple: to actually build a wallet or belt that might lasts longer than century, you’d need leather so thick and rigid that it becomes more and more impractical to use. We’ve found a better path — the perfect balance of durability and comfort.
Having been crafting since 1972, we can tell you for certain that our products routinely last over 50 years – we don’t just say that, we have customers that prove it to us. We select the strongest fibers from full-grain American Bison hides and pair them with hardware and stitching that stand up to daily life. Your wallet shouldn’t feel like a brick. Your belt shouldn’t feel like armor. Longevity and usability should coexist — and with us, they do.
Our Longhaul Guarantee™ reflects that philosophy: fair, straightforward, and built on real craftsmanship.
Why Our Guarantee Is Different
Our roots are in professional shoe repair, one of the toughest environments in leatherwork. When you spend decades fixing failed stitching, broken hardware, cracked leather, and worn-out goods from every brand imaginable, you learn exactly what holds up — and what doesn’t.
That background shapes everything we make and everything we guarantee.
We warranty materials and craftsmanship that don’t fail under normal use. We also clearly outline what isn’t covered — not to limit you, but to be transparent about the natural characteristics of leather and the realities of daily wear.

Not Covered
We like to be fully transparent so you know exactly what you’re getting. While our warranty covers a lot, there are some things we don’t cover.
Belts
- Belt straightness – Leather belts naturally curve to the wearer’s body over time. This is desirable, comfortable, and not a defect.
- Weight Loss/Gain – Peoples body sizes change over time. Fit changes due to sizing changes are not covered.
- Water damage or long-term humidity exposure – While belts can be worn in all weather, repeated storage in damp environments (humid rooms like basements, garages, etc.) accelerates wear and is not covered.
Wallets & Checkbooks
- Shape – As you use your leather good, it will conform to your body. This is normal and desired as it will feel more comfortable in your pocket.
- Vinyl/Plastic ID windows or inserts – These materials are inherently not as strong as leather – they will wear out over time, but we use the strongest available. New vinyl insert’s are available for a nominal fee on our website. ID windows are not replaceable.
Purses & Bags
- Nylon Cable Zippers – While the most durable in the industry, they are not as long-lasting as brass. If these fail, zipper repair may be available for a fee. (Customers wanting maximum zipper lifespan should choose designs with brass zippers).
Small Leather Goods
- Vinyl/Plastic ID windows or inserts – These materials are inherently not as strong as leather – they will wear out over time, but we use the strongest available. New vinyl insert’s are available for a nominal fee on our website. ID windows are not replaceable.
Coasters & Mousepads
- Water rings from cups
- Scratches and marks from using a mouse (if they develop)
Leather “Blooming”
Our leather is real, and real leather has natural oils in it. Unlike poor leather goods that you need to condition often, our leather is full grain leather and retains its natural oils. If a product sits unused for some time, some of those oils might “bloom” out of the leather. This is normal – it’s one sign you have good leather. Just take a dry cloth and rub it on the leather in a circular motion to “buff” it, just as you would if you were using a leather conditioner. This will move the natural oils back into the leather (and onto the cloth you use to do this).
